About Corrie Couture

Design & Ethos

Dressing down all the time is no fun!  Susan’s background as a designer-maker ensures that your outfit for that special occasion will be perfectly accentuated by one of Corrie Couture’s designs.  From the smallest fascinator to the largest hat or an off-the-wall headpiece, Susan’s designs are intended to show you off at your best.

Quality

Corrie Couture pieces are all hand stitched using the highest quality materials from reputable suppliers.  Feathers are sourced from conscientious suppliers.

In addition to the hand crafted items themselves, Susan also draws on her design background to manufacture her own millinery blocks.  This ensures that your commission is a unique item with only a handful of others of a similar shape; the trim and decoration is always different.

History

Susan Corrie was brought up in Dumfries and Galloway and studied at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating with a BDes (Hons) in Product Design.

Photographs of Morrie Sellar, her grandmother, from the 1940s and 50s show how elegant and ladylike she was; always perfectly turned out and never seen without her makeup and heels on (and hats outdoors, of course!).  Her other grandmother, Raili Laiho, was similarly very glamorous; fabulous 1960s and 70s photographs demonstrate how the cold winters in Finland need not mean abandonment of style – take note!
